Travel: How you experience new cultures, new environments, new people, and so much more. Travel is invigorating and exciting. I often travel with my wife to Greece, and the relaxation, the ambiance, the food and drink- it’s all what life is about. Seeing how other people and cultures experience life helps us curate a new perspective. We can learn from different cultures. Not only on things we should strive to do more in our lives, but things we can appreciate about our own culture and environment.
Traveling always serves as a fresh reminder to breathe and take in my surroundings. Greece always serves as a reminder to me that there is more to life than just work. There is a common phrase about the way of life in Europe versus the United States. In Europe, they work to live, and in the United States, we live to work. We often forget that there is more to life than just work in America. This is something the Europeans, especially the Greeks have mastered in their wisdom.
However, this way of life does come with a double-edged sword. Europeans live much longer, they are happier, but there are things I learn to love about the United States as well with my travel. We have great infrastructure and opportunities many Europeans dream of. Unemployment, especially youth unemployment is through the roof, and many times people are not able to get jobs in any other industry other than service. Things like this I learn to appreciate about my own way of life when visiting other countries. I learn to appreciate not only the opportunities I have and can provide my children, but also I can learn that Greeks truly know how to live their life to the fullest.
The most important lesson I have learned in my travels is finding the balance between the concept of working to live and working to create opportunity for myself and my family. This is a delicate balance and one that I’ve found takes years to master.
